The Blue Ridge Parkway is a National Parkway and All-American Road in the United States, noted for its scenic beauty. The parkway, which is America's longest linear park, runs for 469 miles through 29 counties, mostly along the beautiful Blue Ridge, which is part of the iconic and oldest mountain chain in America, the Appalachian Mountains.

Itinerary

Day 1 - UK - Atlanta
Your holiday to the Blue Ridge Parkway begins with scheduled flight's with United Airlines from London Heathrow or Manchester. On arrival at Atlanta Hartsfield's Airport collect your rental car and make your way to your overnight hotel. Atlanta is home to CNN and Coca Cola and there are many museums dedicated to these companies.
Overnight(1): Atlanta - The Ellis Hotel 

Day 2 - Atlanta - Asheville (208 miles)
Travel to the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Tour the Biltmore Estate, a 250 room chateau that is America's largest home. Asheville’s crown jewel, Biltmore , was created by George Vanderbilt in 1895 as a retreat reminiscent of the grand castles and estates of France and Britain.

Day 3 - Asheville
Stroll through a vibrant entertainment hub in the heart of Asheville, the town has a Historic district with many independent shops and farm fresh eateries. Spend some time in the River Arts District

Day 4 - Asheville - Cherokee - Asheville (228 miles)
Spend the day travelling to Cherokee and discover the history and traditions of the Cherokee Indians at the museum and cultural sites. Unique shopping can be found and together with the live displays, making Cherokee an interesting day trip.

Day 5 - Asheville - Blue Ridge Parkway - Blowing Rock (90 miles)
Travel the Blue Ridge Parkway today, Visit Grandfather Mountain, cross the Swinging Suspension Bridge. Visit Linville Caverns to see Stalactite and Stalagmite formations. 
Overnight(1): Blowing Rock - Inns of Blowing Rock 

Day 6 - Blowing Rock - Blue Ridge Parkway - Roanoke (190 miles)
Continue along the Blue Ridge this morning, stopping at sites such as Blowing Rock, Rocky Knob, or take a hike into Rockcastle Gorge. Take a visit this afternoon to the Roanoke Star, The Roanoke Star is an iconic symbol of Virginia's Blue Ridge and a must-see spot when visiting the region. The 100-foot-tall star sits perched atop Mill Mountain and overlooks the surrounding valley and Blue Ridge Mountains, serving as a beacon and welcoming sign to visitors. It is illuminated every night until midnight. As the largest, man-made, illuminated star in the world, the Roanoke Star is one of the most photographed attractions in the area and the scenic overlook at the base of the structure is a popular stop for an incredible view of the region.
Overnight(1): Roanoke - Sheraton Roanoke 

Day 7 - Roanoke - Charlottesville (121 miles)
Visit the Virginia Museum of Transportation housing the largest collection of diesel and steam locomotives in the United States. Before continuing to Charlottesville.
Overnights(2): Charlottesville - Omni Charlottesville 

Day 8 - Charlottesville 
Visit Jefferson's Monticellom an architectural masterpiece and the grounds of the University of Virginia, both are UNESCO World Heritage Sites

Day 9 - Charlottesville - Washington, DC (116 Miles)
Depart early this morning, Drop off your rental car at the downtown depot and check into your hotel. Washington DC is an easy city to get around using the Metro, cabs or by walking. Take a stroll along the National Mall from the Capital Building to the Reflecting Pool overlooked by Abraham Lincoln.

Day 10 - Washington DC
Tour the Capitol Building this morning, followed by a trip to the Smithsonian, there is a wide choice from the Air & Space Museum, National History or National Gallery. Find out how the news is produced by visiting the Newseum, there are some great photo opportunites from the roof.  

Day 11 - Washington DC - UK
Spend some free time this morning, why not take the metro to Pentagon City and visit the Mall for some last minute shopping before travelling independently to Washington Dulles Airport to check in for your flight home.
