Itinerary

Day 1 - UK - Washington

Your holiday starts today with a Virgin Atlantic flight from London Heathrow to Washington, On arrival, transfer independently to your hotel. Spend your first night walking through the streets of Georgetown with its many shops, restaurants and bars.

Overnights (2): Washington

Day 2 - Washington

Washington has a lot to offer the visitor with its many free attractions, visit the Smithsonian Institution on the National Mall, or take a walk through the city to view all the many sights including the White House, the Capital Building and the many iconic statues including the Vietnam and Korea War Memorials and the Lincoln Memorial. For a small fee, visit the International Spy Museum and become a realife James Bond with your secret mission. 

Day 3 - Washington to Charlottesville (115 miles)

Collect your rental car this morning and travel to the Blue Ridge Parkway, ascending well over 3,000 feet to the dominating views of the Skyline Drive  through the Shenandoah National Park. Then onto Charlottesville, once home to American statesmen Thomas Jefferson. Today Charlottesville is a charming college town with many shops, restaurants and tea rooms.

Day 4 & 5 - Charlottesville - Richmond (73 miles)

Before leaving Charlottesville this morning, visit one of the loveliest American homes, Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. Thomas Jefferson,  principal author of the United States Declaration of Independence (1776) and the third President of the United States. Monticello and the University of Virginia are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. After a short drive, arrive in the state capital of Virginnia, Richmond.  Old Waterfront warehouses have been restored into trendy shops. Visit the Museum & White House of the Confederacy. Explore the emancipation story at the Manchester Slave Trail and the Lumpkin’s Jail site.   For 40 years prior to the Civil War, Richmond was the nation’s center for the export of slaves.The Reconciliation Statue, which  signifies an apology for slavery, is one of only three located worldwide and is the only one in the U.S.

Day 6 - Richmond - Williamsburg (52 miles)

Today visit Colonial Williamsburg, the most extensively restored 18th Century town in the United States. So compelling is the restoration that you feel that you are in a crown colony over 300 years ago. Perhaps visit Busch Gardens with more than 50 thrilling rides and attractions, great stage shows and a wide variety of food and world class shops.

Day 7 & 8 - Williamsburg - Virginia Beach (60 miles)

Depart Williamsburg for fascinating visits to Jamestown, founded in 1607 as the first English settlement in the "New World"  and Yorktown, historic site of one of the most definitive battles of the American Revolution. Later head for Virginia Beach, the world's longest pleasure beach, where you can find some of the best seafood in town at Waterman's Beachwood Grill overlooking the ocean. At night the beachfront comes alive and you can enjoy cocktails on the boardwalk while watching the sunset.

Day 9 - Virginia Beach - Annapolis (241 miles)

Make your way to the "Yatching Capital" of the Chesapeake today - Annapolis. with its host of splendid colonial buildings clustered around the 18th-century Maryland State House, the oldest State House in continuous legislative use in the U.S. Enjoy lively cafes and bars along the waterfront, or browse the boutiques and shops along the brick-lined streets of Annapolis Historic District. Take a scenic harbour cruise and a guided tour of the US Naval Academy, home to a 4,000-strong Brigade of Midshipmen.

Day 10 - Annapolis - Baltimore (31 miles) 

Today, take a short drive north to Baltimore Head for the Inner Harbor, where Top of the World Observation Level at the World Trade Center offers a great view over the entire city. Make tracks to the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum or take in a dolphin show at the National Aquarium. Tempt your taste buds at Fells Point bars and restaurants, set in restored period buildings. In the evening, enjoy the Inner Harbor’s relaxed, happy atmosphere enlivened by musicians and street performers.

Overnight (1): Annapolis

Day 11 - Baltimore - Washington DC (41 miles)

Following breakfast visit Fort McHenry where the ‘upstart’ Americans fiercely resisted a British fleet during the War of 1812. ‘By dawn’s early light’ the American flag still flew defiantly over the fort, giving inspiration for America’s national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner. Then make your way to Washington Dulles International Airport on the way visit the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum at the Udvar Hazy Centre located approx 3 miles from Washington Dulles, you can view some of the most amazing vehicles to cross the skies, including the Space Shuttle Discovery. In the afternoon, return your hire car and check in for your flight home.

Day 12: Arrive UK

Flights are with Virgin Atlantic from London Heathrow, alternativly we can also quote on United Airlines who not only fly from London Heathrow but they also offer a direct service from Manchester.
