A whole day to explore Boston! Today this vibrant and diverse city is renowned for its water-front, art and cultural attractions and world-class educational institutions. Boston has a rich cultural and historical heritage. You'll discover that history while exploring distinctive neighbourhoods, from charming Beacon Hill to trendy Back Bay. You'll enjoy many designated historical paths, parks and green areas - the newest of which is the Rose Kennedy Greenway in downtown Boston. Collect your rental car this morning, before you leave Boston for a short drive to Newport, Rhode Island where you'll have time for a leisurely day on the coast. Newport is the unofficial sailing capitol of New England. It's where the "America's Cup" race began. Many of these homes are open for public tours today

This area with its mountains, forests, lakes and streams is a haven for wildlife and a paradise for fishermen, hikers and nature lovers. The two most important cities in the Province of Quebec are Montreal and Quebec City. They are connected on each side of the St. Lawrence River via an express road. Fall under the spell of this 400-year-old walled city. Founded by the French as the heart of Nouvelle France in the early 17th Century, it became part of the British empire by the mid 18th Century. Despite that, Quebec City - the capitol of the Province of Quebec - stubbornly clings to its French cultural roots. Quebec City residents are eager to share their love of their city with you. You'll enjoy a cosmopolitan experience with shopping, dining and attractions with an abundance of old-world charm. Don't miss the area's must see attractions: Fortification of Quebec, Old Quebec, Place Royal/Old Port, Montmorency Falls Park, Parliament Hill and Ile d'Orleans.

Most of the day will be spent on a scenic drive to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. You'll drive through small towns and cross the US/Canadian Border and enter the United States by late morning early afternoon. Take advantage of a variety of tours of the area that include; lighthouse tours, whale and marine- life watching cruises, and guided hikes.

Day 11 - Bar Harbor - (Boothbay Harbor) - Portland (175 miles)

Today's leisurely drive takes you from Bar Harbor to Portland. You'll want to spend a few hours in Boothbay Harbor - a picturesque natural harbour known as "The Boating Capital of New England". On the Wharf is a working lobster pound where you can get fresh-from-the- sea cooked-to-order Maine lobster. Day 12 - South Portland - Falmouth/Cape Cod (220 miles)

Today's journey along Route 1 between Portland and Boston and then on to Cape Cod reprises the themes of your New England & Quebec adventure. If time allows you may want to visit one or two of these towns along the way. Kennebunkport, Maine - historically known for its coastal landscapes, fishing and shipbuilding, today it is a popular summer vacation destination. Portsmouth, New Hampshire boasts a rich maritime history and is one of America's oldest and prettiest cities. Today along Portsmouth's historic harbour you'll find cobblestone streets, historic buildings, boutiques, cafes and galleries. Just north of Portsmouth is Kittery Premium Outlets Mall with hundreds of outlet shops for last minute shopping. Rockport and Gloucester, Massachusetts are located on the Cape Ann coast. Cape Ann scenery has inspired artists for generations. And finally, Salem, Massachusetts - well-known as the site of the 17th century witchcraft trials, this historic coastal city has a rich maritime heritage and well-preserved collection of historic homes. The Wampanoag People have lived in south-eastern New England for over 12,000 years and the Wampanoag Homesite explores the story and traditions of this Native American.
