Guide to USA New York
"the empire state"
Often when people think about New York they think of New York City.
New York City is one of the most iconic cities in the world. The Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Central Park, the Guggenheim Museum, Broadway and 5th Avenue - no where else has so many great attractions, shops, hotels, bars and restaurants around every corner.
However there’s another New York beyond the ‘Big Apple’ - it’s New York State - and it offers an untold number of delights for travellers worldwide. To the east is Long Island, with its miles of ocean beaches, the perfect destination for people who like to swim, sunbathe, surf or fish. Just to the north, lies the Hudson Valley, with its river-hugging towns, rolling farmland, fabulous antique shops, art and architectural treasures.
In the Catskills, take a tour of a local winery or tee-off on one of the region’s four dozen golf courses while in the Capital-Saratoga region visit the nation’s oldest thoroughbred track.
The Adirondacks are home to Whiteface, the Olympic Mountain, and the Olympic village of Lake Placid, a year-round resort.
The Thousand Islands-Seaway region has great fishing, beautiful state parks, waterside campsites and the 454-mile-long scenic Seaway Trail. Long, narrow, deep blue lakes; unspoiled forests; cold streams; thundering waterfalls; and wide, fertile valleys make up Finger Lakes, America’s second largest wine producing region.
The spectacle of Niagara Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world is truly awe inspiring.
Rochester, located on the southern shore of the Great Lake ontario, is just 90 minutes east of Niagara Falls. The Spirit of ontario, an 800 passenger deluxe ferry service, operates six daily crossings connecting Toronto to Rochester.
