At leisure to continue to explore this city. There are hip new restaurants and bars, stunning hotels, great nightlife live music, theatres, charming neighbourhoods and terrific shopping options and you have a fantastic start to your trip through the Capital Region.

Day 4
To the Shenandoah Valley - 95 miles
Today you will leave the city and drive through lush countryside, past gracious livery stables to the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Take a detour to the Manassas National Battlefield Park, site of Civil War battles, or to Luray Caverns - the largest cave complex o­n the east coast.

To Charlottesville - 64 miles
A leisurely drive trhrough the area that Thomas Jefferson called the "Eden of the Country". Jefferson's home, Monticello, can be visited and has been described as o­ne of the country's foremost architectural masterpieces. For a real taste of colonial America, have lunch at historic Michie's Tavern and see Ash Lawn Highland, plantation home of President James Monroe.

Richmond is famous as being the former capital of the Confederacy. Visit the Museum and White House of the Confederacy or National Battlefield Park.

Drive along scenic Route 5, visiting o­ne of the many plantations along the way. o­nce at Williamsburg make time to explore Colonial Williamsburg, the most extensively restored eighteenth century town in the United States or Jamestown Island, where America's first English settlement was established.

Visit Newport News' impressive Mariner's Museum or the Virginia Living Museum before travelling to Virginia Beach. Stroll through the 175 acres of azaleas, camelias and roses of the Norfolk Botanical Gardens or visit the Virginia Air and Space Centre in Hampton.
